One of two Alpine resorts operated by the mainstream holiday behemoth, Val Thorens’s Club Med complex has a great position at the base of the slopes. There are 130 basic rooms, a buffet-style restaurant and a well-equipped fitness centre. The all-inclusive price includes accommodation, ski pass, lessons, full board and transfers.

5. Hotel Bel Horizon
This well-located independent hotel has only 31 rooms, but they all face south so they get the sun all day. Other facilities include a sauna, billiard room and Le Panoramic restaurant.
